What’s New on the Menu? – Armstrong Student Center

A new school year is just around the corner, with Move in Week underway, and we thought it would be fun to introduce you to some of the exciting new dining additions for this fall! What better place to begin, than with the central hub of the Miami University dining scene; Armstrong Student Center?

A hotbed of student activity, Armstrong has some wonderful new offerings, including a brand new station, that we are sure guests will love!

Pulley Diner

Pulley is returning, looking largely the same. A rotation of soups will be available, along with chili, which is always available. Guests can build-their-own omelettes from a selection of ingredients. Additionally, blueberries and chocolate chips are now available for your morning pancake creations. A featured cake or torte will also be available on rotation to satisfy your sweet tooth. Keep an eye on our social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) for possible dinner specials that may be popping up throughout the school year as well.

Emporium

The hours have changed slightly (it’s no longer open 24 hours), however, it’s still the Emporium you know and love.

Haines’ Boulangerie

You will notice an enhanced soup rotation (similar to Pulley’s), but otherwise, Haines’ Boulangerie remains largely the same compared to a year ago.

Miami Ice

Miami Ice’s gelato is still made in-house and oh so tasty. We’ve added Affogato to the menu, which is gelato topped with a shot of hot espresso… just let that thought sink in for a moment.

Mein Street

Mein Street is back and rolling as a campus favorite. You may notice a slight difference in the ordering process in an effort to better serve you. Definitely give the new Sweet Teriyaki Sauce a taste with your stir-fry.

Wing Bar

Wing Bar now offers three sizes of boneless and traditional wings (5, 10 and 15) and you can now purchase a tasty fried chicken sandwich there. Mozzarella sticks and onion rings are side options, along with dipping sauces. Definitely try the brand new Dagron Berry Sauce with your mozzarella sticks. It’s the brainchild of one of the staff members there and it’s delicious. Along those lines, also try the new Sweet Teriyaki Sauce on your wings.

Sundial

Sundial is returning with calzones, made-to-order custom pasta dishes and made-to-order stone oven pizzas, along with the standard pizza and pasta favorites. The big news with Sundial is that you are able to use the GET App to order ahead and skip the line for pick-up. You can use this mobile ordering feature for the custom pastas and the customizable stone oven pizzas, along with sides, drinks and more. This means you can enjoy Sundial’s specialty items with the convenience of walk-up service!

Download the GET App for Apple and Android, or order online here.

Traditions

Traditions is completely new, replacing Serrano this year (look for your taco/taco bowl fix over at Maplestreet’s Americas). The menu is a rotating menu with some healthier takes on traditional comfort food. Look for meats (grilled salmon, ham, roasted chicken, Ribeye steak, etc.), potatoes, veggies and prepared salads, among a litany of other tasty, healthy dining options!

Per usual, keep tabs on the latest happenings in dining by following us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram! We are very excited to have you all back on campus and we can’t wait to serve you during the 2016-17 school year!

Top 10 Most Popular Menu Items from Spring Semester

There are 11 different locations on campus, offering a wide array of food. From the epicenter of student activity at Armstrong, to King Cafe and Dividends, there are a variety of flavors available to students across the Miami University campus.

That got us thinking. What are the most popular meals on campus?

Without further ado, let’s take a look back at the spring semester and countdown the top 10 most popular menu items at our a la carte locations.

10. Spicy Chicken Sandwich

The spicy chicken sandwich gets the countdown rolling at No. 10. Available at Pulley Diner, Bell Tower Place and Garden Market, as well as buffet locations on occasion, the spicy chicken sandwich is a tasty choice that students flock to. Keep tabs on our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts next year so you don’t miss out on spicy chicken sandwich specials, like the one we had at Encounter this past semester.

This spicy chicken sandwich was offered as a limited time special at Encounter earlier this spring semester.

9. Burger with Fries

This classic meal is available across campus, but Encounter, Pulley Diner and Bell Tower Place are the primary culprits for this ranking. Be sure to try a smash-style burger from Pulley Diner, or head over to Encounter for a local burger, fresh from Oxford’s Reserve Run Family Farm.

Encounter is home to the Encounter Burger, made with Reserve Run Farm beef.

8. Chicken Fingers

You knew chicken fingers would find a way on to this list. After all, you can’t go wrong with chicken fingers! They can be found across campus, particularly at the likes of Pulley Diner and Bell Tower Place.

Chicken fingers are offered across campus, but they are certainly a favorite at Pulley Diner.

7. 16oz Gourmet Coffee

Coffee is the life-blood of the college student and this ranking supports that thought process. Whether just waking up or preparing for a late study session, coffee is a go-to on campus. King Cafe, Miami Ice, Tea Hive, Garden Market and our new Starbucks (located at Maplestreet Station) are the primary coffee destinations, although it is available at other locations across campus.

A number of campus locations can cure coffee-deprivation.

6. Deli Sandwich

Deli sandwiches were the sixth most popular item from the spring semester. Available at Haines’ Boulangerie, Delish, King Cafe and Bell Tower Place (along with different wraps at other locations), the deli sandwich has a wide reach. While all the locations mentioned allow you to customize your own, which is hard to pass up, be sure to try the deli stations at the buffet locations too!

Yum. Delish.

5. Banana

Checking in at No. 5 is perhaps the most surprising of the top 10; the banana. Yep, that’s right, the banana was the fifth most popular item across campus during the spring semester. Bananas are smart choices when you’re looking for a snack or need something on your way to class and can be found all over campus. They are nutrient-rich and have been linked to a variety of health studies as a wonderful addition to any diet. Plus, they are a great source of potassium for those of you who are hitting the gym!

Bananas are a great addition to any diet and can be found across campus at a variety of different dining and market locations.

4. RedHawk Water

We like to share with you the importance of drinking lots of water, so it’s good to see water amongst the top items from the spring. Like bananas, water is available across campus and is a great thing to get more of in your diet. Water could be even higher on this list, as this doesn’t even account for SmartWater or some of the other brands that are sold on campus.

RedHawk water is another item that can be found across campus, particularly at our market locations like Market Street at MacCracken.

3. Dividends Salad

At No. 3, we have the beloved Dividends salad from — you guessed it — Dividends! Trader’s Greens salads are available at Dividends, Americas and Haines’ Boulangerie, but salads are also available at buffets. We’d be remised if we didn’t at least mention the popular dressing of choice; the delicious sweet herb vinaigrette that certainly helped the Dividends salad in these rankings.

Trader’s Greens, the salad station at Dividends, is also located at Americas and Haines’ Boulangerie.

2. Pizza

Pizza makes the world go round, so it’s only fitting that it jumps in here as the No. 2 most popular item of the spring semester. Pizza is available at Sundial, Red Brick Pizza and Bell Tower Place, but is also available at La Mia Cucina, through LMC Pizza Delivery and at buffet locations (slices at Garden Commons and personal flatbread at Western Dining Commons).

Pizza is a tasty staple of college life and it’s available across campus at Sundial, Red Brick, La Mia Cucina, LMC Pizza Delivery and buffets.

1. Stir Fry

And at No. 1 is… stir fry! Stir Fry is available at Mein Street, Bell Tower Place and Pacific Rim and is clearly a campus favorite. Stir fry can offer some great health value and is simply delicious. If you’d like to get a taste of the top item from this spring, it can be found at the above a la carte locations (Mein Street is open this summer) or is available at Garden Commons buffet as well!

And stir fry reigns supreme! Available at Mein Street, Bell Tower Place and it can be ordered at Garden Commons.

Welcome Back! – What’s New this Spring?

Welcome back! After a brief hiatus for winter break and winter term, everyone is back in Oxford ready to begin spring semester. While many worked, relaxed or watched the winter weather make an abrupt 2016 introduction, we were hard at work on a variety of exciting additions for this coming semester! The buffet halls are the biggest source of excitement on campus, including Harris Dining Commons, Western Dining Commons and Garden Commons. Here are our biggest announcements:

1. Extended Hours at Harris

For some, the breaks in buffet hall hours (especially between lunch and dinner) were a source of frustration. Now, in order to account for students whose schedules don’t always play nice with buffet lunch hours, we are extending the hours at Harris Dining Hall. Monday through Thursday, Harris will be open from 7:30 AM until 10:30 AM and then will be open again from 11 AM until 8 PM, remaining open through lunch and dinner. This – compared to closing from 2 PM until 5 PM last semester – will give students a buffet dining option outside of standard lunch and dinner meal times!

It is important to mention that not every station will be available from 2 PM until 5 PM, with the “hot” stations needing time to cook and prepare food for the dinner service, but that brings us to the next exciting announcement…

2. The Deli Bar

Harris is adding a Deli Bar! Students will now be able to stop by Harris and build their own deli sandwich at the new Harris Deli Bar. The new station will offer a variety of sandwich toppings and even a daily “party dip” option (spinach artichoke dip… etc.), providing students with a customizable healthy option for lunch, dinner and, now, the time in between. The Salad, Soup and Fruit Bars will also be open throughout the new extended hours, offering even more healthy options throughout the middle part of the day. However, if you’re more interested in grabbing some ice cream, that area will be also available during the extend time to satisfy your sweet-tooth.

To go along with the addition of a Deli Bar at Harris, Western Dining Commons is adding a Deli Bar as well. Much like the one at Harris, students will be able to pick from a variety of deli options and make their own sandwich their way. The Western Deli Bar will only be open during standard hours of operation, as Harris is the only buffet hall extending their hours.

Students who call Garden Commons their “home” dining location needn’t feel left out though, as their Deli Station from last semester returns with only minor revisions meant to make the station more prominent for students who are looking for the custom, deli sandwich experience. Be sure to give that a try the next time you’re at Garden!

3. Menu Additions

This semester, our focus is providing and exposing students to an increased variety of healthy options. That includes more vegan and vegetarian entrees at buffet halls and other new look items like composed vegan/vegetarian salads available at buffet salad bars.

New vegan breakfast items will be available at the different buffet halls (like vegan muffins). Other accommodations have been made for those looking to keep up their healthy eating New Year’s resolutions like making meatless options more accessible and offering more veggie side dishes at Campus Grill locations. Vegan crumbles and tofu will be available at breakfast upon request, as will other vegan/vegetarian alternatives. Kale will be making an appearance on campus this semester and hot cereal/oatmeal dishes will be available at our buffet locations for breakfast.

Now, don’t fret meat-lovers, your favorites are still available. In fact, the Campus Grill locations are introducing a new daily “specialty item” which will be a hot, unique sandwich like a Philly Cheesesteak or a Meatball Sub, which rotates daily. The Campus Grill will also be rotating through a variety of different chicken dishes and even different types of fries.

4. Location Specific Additions for the Buffets

Harris: Miami Spice will be open at lunch. On Saturdays, Harris will be serving made-to-order omelettes and Harris will serve crepes on Sundays.

Western: Mashed Potato Bowls will be available once again at the International Station (when you first walk in on the right) on rotation with tacos, burritos and more. Be sure to check MyTray to see what is being served when. There will be more pizza flavors and the Grill & Roast station will offer more items this semester.

Garden: Made-to-order pasta will be available over at Caio, offering students the opportunity to customize their pasta dishes. Additionally, more specialty pasta sauces will be available. Whole wheat pasta will also cycle in at that location. Look for a couple new stir fry recipes at Zen Garden.

5. Elsewhere

Haines’ Boulangerie: Kale has been added to the menu and there is a new Chipotle Chicken Salad Wrap that deserves your undivided attention.

Sundial: Tortellini Tuesday is a thing! Tortellini will be offered at Sundial on Tuesdays, which is always a good thing.

Pulley Diner: You can now order a veggie side instead of fries. In the early going, we recommend that you ask for the substitution when you order.

First Stop: First Stop is now opening at 7 AM on weekdays. Between 7 AM and 10 AM, students can grab a quick To-Go breakfast sandwich with a coffee as a part of our new combo!

What’s New on the Menu? – Armstrong (2015)

We find ourselves just under two weeks away from the start of classes and many of you will make the trek back to beautiful Oxford, Ohio even before then (we do have some dining locations available from Monday, August 17 – Sunday, August 23).

As you gather your things for another year of college, or your very first, we want to prepare you for the exciting new food items that you will be seeing as you return to campus. First and foremost, turkey sausage will be making its debut on the Oxford campus. You will be able to find it for breakfast campus-wide starting this fall.

While there are a number of menu additions across campus, let us first begin with the incredibly popular Armstrong Student Center.

Haines’ Boulangerie

Haines’ remains mostly the same from last year, with one major addition. A boulangerie, by definition, is a bakery that specializes in baking and selling bakery items. While Haines’ will continue to offer sandwiches, salads and soups, Haines’ will also provide students and staff with an enhanced bakery with both breakfast and dessert items.

Cookies have been added to the menu (chocolate chip, expresso) with mini turtle bites and shortbread. Cupcakes, reminiscent of the beautiful Patisserie cupcakes at Maplestreet, will make their Armstrong debut at Haines’ as well with toffee crunch, oreo blast and mint chocolate chip flavors.

The bakery will also be expanded with other pastry items like danishes, donuts and scones, just to name a few.

Mein Street/Wing Bar

Mein Street’s menu hasn’t really changed from last year, but the major addition to that area of Armstrong is the new Wing Bar, which will go by the name “Wing Bar”, making it perhaps the easiest dining location name to remember.

The Wing Bar is brand new and will take up residence next to Mein Street, up against the wall that divides Mein Street and Haines’ Boulangerie. The Wing Bar will specialize in, you guessed it, wings! There will be seven different sauces early on, including Hot Buffalo, Medium Buffalo, Mild Buffalo, Honey BBQ, Hot BBQ, Asian and Parmesan Garlic Sauce. We are always open to new ideas though, so feel free to reach out with suggestions for us to explore!

The Wing Bar also means the return of boneless wings and a permanent residence for those glorious mozzarella sticks! Expect Wing Bar to be a student favorite in no-time.

20090918-smash-01

Burgers at Pulley will now be made in the “smash-style”, which is with fresh patties, pressed into the stove, resulting in a fresher, even more delicious, burger.

Pulley Diner

Pulley is another location that is adding quality options to their menu. Pulley is adding a BLT sandwich and offering shoestring fries instead of crinkle fries, which will be a little more unique.

The big change in the Pulley kitchen will be with the burgers. Don’t worry, they still exist, but now they will be made in a “smash-style” with raw meat literally smashed on the cooking surface to form and cook the patties. The result will be, fresher, even tastier burger patties for your enjoyment. There will be standard hamburger, cheeseburger and double cheeseburger options.

I know where I will be.

Sundial

The first thing to note with Sundial is that wings will no longer be offered there. However, that is merely because the Wing Bar will be your wing destination instead, so no worries… you can still find some wings when you stop by Armstrong.

Sundial will be focusing on pizza, pasta and the new “build your own” calzones that they will now be offering. Sundial offered personal “build-your-own” pizza last year (and still will this year) and will expand that service to calzones. So, if you’re craving a calzone, Sundial will now be able to help you cure that craving.

Serrano/Emporium/Miami Ice

These three locations are not really changing their menus entering this year. Emporium remains a top-notch market in Armstrong and Miami Ice remains a wonderful “go-to” destination for ice cream, gelato, coffee products and some bakery/pastry items. Serrano returns to it’s roots as a Mexican dining option, offering burritos, burrito bowls, loaded nachos, taco salads and quesadillas. Serrano also has a unique dessert option in the delicious cinnamon chips with marshmallow dip, which is definitely worth checking out.
