Introducing La Mia Cucina Faculty & Staff Lunch

Starting February 29th, La Mia Cucina will begin opening during lunch service for Faculty & Staff who would like a little escape from the hustle and bustle of the campus life. The new Faculty & Staff Lunch will offer delicious Italian food options and, perhaps more importantly, a convenient parking location to go along with it.

Made-to-Order Stone Oven Flatbread Pizzas, sandwiches and more will be available in the confines of the Italian themed eatery Monday-Friday from 11:30 AM until 2:00 PM during Faculty & Staff Lunch. During that time, La Mia Cucina will only accept cash and credit (and will not be accepting meal plans), although the 10% off Payroll Deduction will still apply, if applicable.

We can’t wait for you to join us for lunch!

How to Find La Mia Cucina

La Mia Cucina is located in Harris Dining Center on South Quad, conveniently located next to the new Faculty & Staff Parking Lot.

Recapping Mardi Gras Dinner

Mardi Gras Dinner last night had a little bit of everything as students from all across campus braved the snow showers and joined us for dinner. There was delicious food, an area for Mardi Gras mask-making, live music and even a little dancing that gave this special dinner it’s own level of uniqueness.

While Garden Commons illuminated the snowy Oxford night, the Mardi Gras holiday was being celebrated inside, complete with traditional southern dishes and a wonderful, fun dining atmosphere.

Students performed live music throughout the evening while other students channelled their creativity as they made beautiful and elegant Mardi Gras masks. Others simply enjoyed their food amongst the purple, green and gold that highlighted the interior of the buffet hall in the form of streamers, signs, beads and King Cake.

The menu featured a variety of traditional southern items, commonly served around Mardi Gras. There was Traditional Gumbo, Shrimp & Grits, Shrimp & Crayfish Boil with Red Potatoes & Corn, Blackened Tilapia, Cajun Baked Catfish, Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce, Beignets, Banana Foster and the traditional King Cake, among other dishes. All of which were very well received throughout the evening.

We’re glad you took the time to join us in celebrating Mardi Gras and we hope you enjoyed the festivities as much as we did! We can’t wait to see you at our next special dinner!

A New Look for Uncle Phil’s Express

Before we begin, we must ask; what do you know about Uncle Phil’s Express?

For some, the title “Uncle Phil’s Express” may not mean much. For others, it’s viewed as a saving grace in a fast-paced college environment.

For those who don’t recognize the name, Uncle Phil’s Express is Miami University’s very own line of sandwiches, wraps, salads, snacks and other side items that are available across campus, particularly in the markets. Ever grabbed a packaged PB&J to-go from MacCracken, or reached for a Chicken Caesar Salad in the clear plastic containers? That’s our Uncle Phil’s Express line.

Named after Phillip “Uncle Phil” Shriver himself, Uncle Phil’s Express has been the go-to, quick meal on the Miami University campus for years, giving students a quick salad between classes or a cold sandwich for the walk back to the dorm to eat later.

This semester though, we decided that the menu needed a reboot of sorts. So, to go along with a fresh new logo, we have revamped our offerings through Uncle Phil’s Express, offering a variety of convenient and delicious items that include a wider selection of healthy, on-the-go options.

The Vegan Veggie Garlic Wrap, which is absolutely delicious.

Below is our Spring Semester Uncle Phil’s Express menu, highlighted by a delicious Vegan Veggie Garlic Wrap, a Ham, Provolone and Spinach sandwich, an Edamame Salad, a Vegan Spinach Salad and a Vegetarian Caesar Salad, among other wonderful options.

Spring Semester Uncle Phil’s Express Menu:

  • Ham, Provolone, Spinach, on Wheat Klosterman

  • PB&J on Wheat

  • Greek Yogurt Parfait with Dark Chocolate Chips Mixed in
  • Fresh Fruit Cup
  • Edamame Salad

  • Caesar Chicken Salad
  • Chef Salad
  • Vegan Spinach Salad
  • Vegetarian Caesar Salad

While the menu and logo have received a fresh new look, you can still expect the same care and quality to go into each and every Uncle Phil’s Express item. Each item above is still handmade and packaged in-house at Demske Culinary Support Center by our culinary staff and is delivered out to campus, just in time for you to pick-up during your 30-minute break between classes.

We hope you give our new menu a try and enjoy the additions! Follow/like us on Twitter and Facebook so you can be in the loop for the many promotions/events happening this spring and follow us on Instagram for pictures of food (who doesn’t love that), along with other limited time offers!
