Semester Recap – Fall 2015

With 2015 coming to a close, we have been recapping some of our most memorable moments from the fall semester on our Instagram account, revisiting and reminiscing about the different one-time offers, unique events and exciting opportunities we have been able to share with you over the past couple months.

While there are certain to be even more in 2016, here are our favorites from the first part of the 2015-16 school year, in no particular order.

As always, keep up to date with upcoming events and promotions by following us on Twitter and follow us on Instagram for more photos of the happenings at Miami University in Dining Services!

Honorable Mention – Welcoming Starbucks to Campus

The closure of Patisserie warrants mention here, not because the Maplestreet location closing was one of our favorite memories, but because it ushers in a fully-licensed Starbucks location in the process. The opening of the Starbucks figures to make this list when we put together our Spring Semester Recap!

Patisserie officially closed this past semester, ushering in Starbucks to the Maplestreet Station location. Starbucks is scheduled to open this spring!

We look forward to seeing you all again in 2016 for another fantastic semester!

What Our Students Are Thankful For

We know, Thanksgiving feels like it was years ago, but we’re sure if you give it a little thought you’ll remember those “trees” we set out at the different Thanksgiving dinners. Along with the tree were leaves and markers, to be used by students to write what they are thankful for in their lives. Then we asked them to their leaf up on the branches of the tree.

With Final Exams coming to a close and the end of the year holidays bringing 2015 to a beautiful close, we wanted to share some of the leaves. As you can imagine, the responses we received were varied and creative. Nonetheless, we present some of our favorites.

Farewell Patisserie

For the past two years, Patisserie has been a staple of Maplestreet Station, offering students with a destination, rite with delicious pastries and sweets. Muffins, donuts, chocolate croissants, cupcakes, chocolate and Starbucks drinks were student favorites when celebrating a good grade, a completed week or simply that they woke up in time for their 8 AM.

Now, Patisserie has officially closed so renovations can begin for the opening of Starbucks next year. Thank you for all the support everyone has shown Miami’s pastry and sweets destination over the past couple years.

What Now?

Many of Patisserie’s sweets and pastries have already made their way over to Haines’ Boulangerie in the Armstrong Student Center. Beginning this Fall Semester, Haines’ expanded their bakery items, many of which coming from Patisserie. Want a Mint Chocolate Chip Cupcake, or are you craving a Chocolate Croissant? Haines’ Boulangerie has you covered. Coffee is most easily found next door (okay, not technically next door) at Maplestreet’s First Stop. Of course, Miami Ice and King Cafe are still wonderful coffee destinations. If you also find yourself looking for some Winans Fine Chocolate (Dayton, Ohio), you can get your fix at MacCracken Market where Winans is sold.

Starbucks

As mentioned above, Starbucks is on their way and will be renovating the Patisserie space over the next couple months to prepare to open sometime early next year. It will be fully-licensed, meaning that it will be a full-blown Starbucks, with all the items you would find at any official Starbucks shop!

So Starbucks’ fans rejoice and wish Patisserie a fond farewell after a wonderful two years of gracing our tastebuds with so many delicious sweets.
