Garden Commons Photo Tour
Yesterday was the East Quad Open House where Miami employees had the opportunity to walk through the newly renovated East Quad buildings. Garden Commons, being a key piece of the Quad renovations, was a major draw, so we stopped by to take some pictures, taste some of the select samples they provided and take in the atmosphere.
If you would like to take a virtual stroll through the new dining hall, simply click on the first photo (top left) below and then cycle through!
The front entrance to the Garden Commons is on the south side of the building that faces the back of the Farmer School of Business.
Garden Commons was a key piece of the East Quad renovations, located near Farmer and the East Quad dorms.
While this is the main entrance, there is another doorway on the Formal Gardens side that will only be accessible during lunch and dinner hours.
When you enter, you are greeted by two of the dining stations and an open serving space.
As you walk in, there is a seating area to your right for dining, studying and/or socializing.
Beyond that, there is the primary seating area that has been made into the former Symmes Hall structure (Note: Garden Commons has essentially replaced the Burkhead Staff Development Center part of the Symmes building. Symmes still serves as a residence hall next door).
The brick archway is the old arch from Symmes Hall. This room is recycled from Symmes Hall using much from the old building including the ceiling and the windows.
The primary seating area is spacious and beautiful. There is also great variety in seating options.
When you first walk-through the entrance, Comfort Thyme is to your left, offering sandwiches, wraps and other comfort food. This station will offer breakfast in the morning.
Across the serving space is Harvest Greens, which will offer soups, salads and fruit. Harvest Greens will also offer breakfast in the morning.
Walk through the columns into the vaulted room with the other two food stations. Directly ahead is the fireplace and through the doorway to the left of the fireplace is the Garden Room.
From here you can see the Asian station, Zen Garden. There is seating in this space as well. Directly ahead is one of the doorways to the Garden Room.
This vaulted room is gorgeous, with the light fixtures and towering windows contributing to a very open space.
Zen Garden wraps around towards the Italian food station, Ciao, and some additional seating. The door in the back corner is the other entrance. It will only be open during lunch and dinner.
Garden Commons is buffet-style, offering students and staff a variety of options.
Across from Zen Garden is the fireplace that opens up to the vaulted room and the Garden Room on the other side.
Through the doorways behind the fireplace is the Garden Room.
The Garden Room offers a bunch of seating options as you look out towards the Formal Gardens.
Yesterday was a little rainy, but it is still a bright, relaxing room for students and staff.
The Italian station, Ciao, is the fourth and final food station. It will offer different pizzas, pasta and calzones.
Here’s the view from the other entrance. You won’t be able to get in Garden Commons this way during breakfast hours.
Here’s the vaulted room from another angle, heading towards the exit.
When you are done eating, you simply drop off your trash and continue on with your day.
Exit where you entered…
…and you are back outside! We can’t wait to serve you this fall!
